A lot of times we get caught up in who has the superstar, star, or the “go-to” player status. We worry about the label that others put on us, as if we are going to be a great player because THEY say so! Here’s the thing… When you’re playing in the game, if you can do want you want, you’re in a good position (providing that your team is worth something). Have you heard of having a “green light” in basketball? That basically means that you have the green light (the go ahead) to make the decisions that you want. You don’t get that green light by taking bad shots, turning the ball over, making poor decisions, or being a liability on defense. You get the green light from… well… being the opposite of what I just described. The green light means that the coach no longer has to babysit your every move, decision, pass, or shot because you’ve proven yourself. Now the coach trusts you! Once you get to THAT status (…keep in mind, nobody will tell you you’re there. You just know), that’s when you’re doing well. It’s not about titles, it’s about production. It’s not about favorites (trust me, I’ve beaten the odds with favoritism), it’s about that work you do! It’s not about the one who shoots the last shot. You can be the best player, and not be chosen to shoot that last shot. Again, it’s about what your game looks like when you get to work! #happysabbath #morningthought #motivation #inspiration #encouragement #superstar #dowhatyouwant #greenlight #basketball #hoopers #ballers #getbetter #skills #development #think #work #play #thinkworkplay #twp #thebasketballphilosopher
