Happy Monday!! Just wanted to drop off a little bit of Morning Inspiration, Motivation and Encouragement for you all. Heck, for myself as well. As players, hoopers, students and people, we enter into the competitions with ourselves to be perfect. To not make mistakes. To do it right on the first try. To never fail at all. But I’m here to remind you and me, it’s ok to NOT be perfect. In basketball, on the stat sheet there is a Turnover column as well as a foul column for a reason. Granted it’s not an area that you want to get tallies, it’s bound to happen. That’s why it’s there. You don’t want to overextend your time in those columns, but if you occasionally visit it’s not the end of the word. You can still be a good player with a foul. You’re just not perfect. You can still be an elite player with a turnover. You’re just not flawless. The same applies for shooting. If you were supposed to ONLY make your shots, there would only be one column for shooting. It would say “Field Goals.” But because people can’t possibly make every single shot, the FG column has a companion called Field Goal Attempts. Missed shots will happen, and they will happen often, and you can still be an amazing player.
We get so caught up in trying not to mess up, trying not to turn the ball over, trying not be human and in reality, that takes the fun out of the game, and that takes the fun out of life! We are all perfectly imperfect players, hoopers and people. But don’t take this too far so that it prevents you from working hard and getting better. Hard work… that’s perfect!
