Build A Door For Opportunity
Sometimes (especially in college) coaches will hit you with the “just wait your turn” statement. That is the worst. We’ve been working hard. We’ve been getting to the gym early, and staying at the gym late. We’ve been putting up extra shots. Working on our quickness. So we feel like we are ready to go. Well here’s a tough reality… you have to do more. Your opportunity hasn’t come knocking, so go out and create a door that it will want to knock on! Let’s look at it this way… if you don’t work harder, if you don’t create your game so that coaches want to play you, well, the other option is to take a seat and watch the game with your parents and spectators. Quite frankly, you can watch basketball at home! Since we want to play (not watch) basketball, you have to do the things necessary to get on that court.
Case and point… if you go to your local gym to play pick up, you have that guy or girl who THINKS he/she is amazing. They’re always in the gym, but they still aren’t good. So nobody wants to pick them on the squad. Even though you may always be in the gym, that doesn’t mean you’re good. More hours in the gym doesn’t equal better skills. Better hours in the gym equal better skills. If you don’t switch things up and create a “better” door, you’ll be just like this dude at the gym, not getting any bump on the court. Coaches won’t play you, and you’ll be confuse! #morningthought #motivation #inspiration #encouragement #beinspired #basketball #hoopers #ballers #getbetter #dobetter #bebetter #opportunity #ballislife #think #work #play #thinkworkplay #twp #thebasketballphilosopher
