Let’s think about all the not so good shooters, the less than average ball handlers, the mediocre at best defenders and the bad rebounders that are out there. Wouldn’t you rather these people do something that they were good at until they improved on the areas that are lacking talent? I would. Coaches would. And I’m sure their teammates would. But what happens when you NEED them to do something basic, but never took the time to fundamentally be strong? Just because you can physically pass a ball, that doesn’t mean that doesn’t mean that you’re good at it. When it comes time to give a post entry and the defense is heavily pressuring you, if you can’t hold the ball, step through, and deliver the ball to the post player, you are now hurting your team. What that does is makes you commit a turnover, deliver the ball to the post in an hard to manage position, or deter you from passing the ball period. Passing is essential, just like a lot of other fundamentals. And, if you don’t take the time to properly implement these skill sets, you may find yourself on the bench as a liability instead of being on the court as an asset!
